Every Word Literacy Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Every Word Literacy (the “App”), published by Carbide Coding LLC (“Carbide Coding,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), handles information when you use it. Carbide Coding's general website privacy policy is at carbidecoding.com/privacy; this document covers the Every Word Literacy app specifically.
The short version
We collect nothing. The App has no internet access at all — it cannot transmit anything, to us or to anyone else, even by accident. There are no accounts, no telemetry, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no third-party SDKs of any kind. Everything a child does in the App stays on the tablet it happens on.
What Every Word Literacy does
Every Word Literacy is a structured-literacy reading program for children in kindergarten through fifth grade, designed to be used together with a parent, tutor, or teacher. It contains 104 lesson units covering letter sounds, phonics, sight words, dictation, decodable reading passages, and word-root morphology. All lesson content, audio, and fonts are bundled inside the App; nothing is downloaded or streamed.
Information we collect
None. The App does not collect, log, or transmit any information about you or any child, including:
- Names, emails, phone numbers, account credentials, or any other identifier
- Device identifiers (advertising ID, IMEI, MAC, serial number)
- Location data of any kind
- Usage analytics, session telemetry, or feature-use tracking
- Crash reports, error reports, or diagnostic data
- Contacts, photos, microphone audio, camera content, or any other personal content
On Android, the App is built without the INTERNET permission — the operating system itself prevents it from making any network connection. There is no server side: Carbide Coding operates no servers, databases, or cloud services in connection with this App.
Information stored on the tablet
So that lessons can resume where a child left off, the App keeps a small local database on the device containing:
- Child profiles — a first name or nickname and a chosen cartoon avatar. The App deliberately never asks for a last name, birthday, email, photo, or any other identifying detail, and says so on the profile screen.
- Lesson progress — which units are completed, mastered, or flagged for review, and the current resume point per profile.
- Settings — display preferences such as the dyslexia-friendly font toggle.
This data exists only on the tablet. Deleting a profile inside the App removes that profile's data, and uninstalling the App removes all of it. Because the data may be included in your device's standard platform backup (Android Auto Backup / iCloud device backup) under your own account, it can move with you to a new device — we never see it.
Children's privacy (COPPA)
Every Word Literacy is designed for use by children with adult guidance. We take the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and equivalent laws seriously, and our approach is the simplest one possible: the App collects no personal information from anyone, child or adult, and has no ability to transmit information off the device. No personal information is collected, used, or disclosed; nothing is shared with third parties; there is nothing for a parent to review or request deletion of on any server, because no server exists. A parent or guardian can inspect or delete everything the App knows by opening the App on the tablet itself.
Purchases
The App contains no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, and no ads. If you paid for the App in an app store, that transaction is handled entirely by the store under its own privacy policy (Google · Apple); we never see your payment details.
Permissions
The App requests no sensitive permissions: no microphone, no camera, no location, no contacts, no file access, and on Android no network access. Audio playback of bundled lesson sounds requires no permission.
Third parties
There are none. The App embeds no advertising network, no analytics provider, no social-media integration, and no remote-configuration service. Its dyslexia-friendly font (Atkinson Hyperlegible) is bundled inside the App rather than fetched from a font service, precisely so the App never needs to touch the network.
Security
Because the App collects nothing and transmits nothing, there is no central data store to breach. The small amount of local progress data is protected by your device's own security (screen lock, encryption, and your platform account).
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above. If a future version of the App ever introduces any information collection, we will update this policy before the change ships in the App.
